Suddenly lost network icon

After years of use with no problems, all of a sudden I can no
longer see the Network icon (Victoria) in Network Neighborhood on
my 98SE machine the past two days. I can no longer see the 98SE
network from the other network machine (XP Home). I can see the
XP network (Bernard) drives from the 98 box so the hub, cables,
and LAN cards seem to be ok. I checked and all the 98 box drives
are set to share and all. I unset one, then reset it. No help.

I didn't add or change any software or hardware on either
machine.

Now what?

TIA

Ken

I got to Step 15 of Tip #1. I still don't see the network icon
for the 98SE network and I don't see the "VIEW THE ENTIRE
CONTENTS ..." or "HIDE THE CONTENTS ..." All I see is the XP
system's network icon.

Step 16 of Tip #1. Where is the 'Tools' mentioned here? If I
click on "Settings" in the Start menu I see a "Folder Options"
choice. Selecting that and its View tab I do not see anything
about networking, including "Automatically search for network
folders and printers."

If you don't see certain things, skip them and move to the next step.
Nothing to worry about since those steps cover 4 OSes, some steps apply,
some don't depending on which OS you are running.

Didn't work. Thanks anyhow.

Think a re-install over the old system might do it (Win98SE)?

You could try that... It may or may not make a difference.
