FYI. I was successful last night with my Win98
notebook/MN-720 in establishing a share across the MN-700
wireless network. It had nothing to do with firewalls.
I realized two things:
(1) I still had NetBEUI artifacts in the Network
Connection which were making communication confusing.
(2) The wireless SSID and workgroup name - while
specified through the Broadband Network Utility - were
not updated under the old Win98 Network Connection
Identification tab. Still listed was an old workgroup
name.
After eliminating netBEUI completely, updating the
workgroup under "Identification", and re-booting I was
able to share out my Win98 C:/ drive aross the network to
WinXP machines with all firewalls operational.
Be patient. Sometimes it takes a couple re-boots for the
old Win98 to recognize that its in a new
workgroup/network. This may help other Win98 PC.
