I have a network 10.1.30.0/24. I need to add another network within
same office at 10.1.40.0. What would my subnetmask be for that.

thanks

cr

Thanks, there will be a switch but we could probably set the routing in
that. So if we do that we could use the /24 ? Our main goal is to
keep all of the broadcasts from the new network out of our existing.

thanks again

Hi!

If you will use router, you can use 10.1.40.0/24.

The subnet mask is the easy bit. You use a 24-bit subnet mask for both
subnets.

The tricky bit is getting these machines to interact. Machines in one
subnet will not be able to interact with machines in the other without IP
routing, even if they are on the same LAN segment. If you want them to also
get to other networks or to the Internet you need to set up the routing and
default gateways carefully.

If your switches support it, use VLANs. That's the easiest, and most
efficient way to set this up.
