struggling with permissions

I have a laptop and a desktop connected via a wired network.

As User, I created a new partition, drive G: and moved all my data to
it.

As administrator I set - or thought I had - sharing and security to
include User, thinking I could then log on as User either on the
desktop or from the laptop and access those data files. I set full
control on both User and Administrator.

However: the desktop User can now 'see' G: but is denied access to the
files; laptop User can't see G: at all.

The only way I can access the files is by logging on as Administrator.

Can anybody help with how to achieve what I want?

TIA
Pete

Did you apply those settings to all files and folders too, or just to the root
of the drive? You need to click Advanced on the Security tab of the drive and
tick "Replace permission on all child objects".
