OK according to the Chief Executive of BT Retail, he reckons* that
most customers are more intrested/concerned with Price/Cost of
Broadband as opposed to Broadband Speed!

BBC TV News 9th April 2006.

Thing is after being a regular in here for a few months, since
switching from NTL to ADSL, I have would say that from reading
posts/threads in this newsgroup, it would be fair to suggest that he
is wrong, as it appears that most people would rate Speed (&
Reliabilty) over price up to a certain level anyway!

Mind I decided on Tiscali, before I found this newsgroup and although
they did seem to have issues around 4pm to 7pm (drastic slowdown)
things have improved, and to be honest my only complaint with Tiscali,
is the crap News Server (Usenet) service.

Still you cannot have everything.

So what would you say is more important to you?

Price.

Speed.

Reliability.

Other (what).

Best Wishes to One & All,

Gaz.

Customer service and competent tech support.

I've often found BT out of touch with what customers want regarding the
Internet. I seem to remember way back when flat rate dialup was being
touted one of the top guys at BT, perhaps the chairman said it would
never happen, no demand, can't be done, that sort of thing. It seemed
obvious that it was coming. Then with ADSL they dragged their feet
saying people didn't really want the speed.

I would think people are concerned with price and speed so they are
half right this time. :-) For me good reliability is a given and
shouldn't be an option the customer has to chose over services provided.

Reliability is a big issue as the internet seems to be entering every aspect
of peoples lives. We shop, bank, communicate and research in almost every
part of our daily lives. For the first time, I even tried to through my
Money away on the Grand National online, because I could not face the smokey
den that is the normal Ladbrokes on that day of the year.

As my Tiscali connection is shakey at best, and I am now sharing this
connection with my two sons, then a faster connection is needed, and
unlimited download limits are going to be a bigger issue.

Whilst I would not agree that price is the most important to me I do think
BT may be right this time. Look at all those folk using very cheap accounts
with 2 GB, or even less, limits. Even if that is OK at 512 Kbps they are
likely to reach or exceed the limit at 8 Gbps simply because they can do
things faster. I think speed will become important but only after most of
the current light users have repeatedly hit the buffers and realised they
will have to pay more for a decent experience.

Remember: Most punters don't know that newsgroups exist so even fewer
actually use them. Those that do use newsgroups are likely to be more
technically savvy and also likely to want a better service, but we are not
typical ADSL customers.

Fast, cheap, reliable. Choose any two.

1. No caps or traffic shaping
2. Reliabilty
3. Speed

Notice I never rated cost.
