Hi,
I have a Zoom X5 ADSL modem connected to a Windows 2000 Server machine via
Ethernet. I have a block of static IP's configured for my network.
Internet connectivity works great. All machines can route to the Internet
no problem.
The problem is with connected VPN clients. They can connect to the server
just fine. All VPN clients can route to and from each other without any
problems. The problem is there seems to be some kind of a timeout issue
going on with this new ADSL modem. After a period of about 2 minutes or so
connected with the VPN tunnels sitting idle, the server nor any of the LAN
hosts can't ping the connected vpn clients.
If I try to ping a non existent vpn subnet IP, I get "destination net
unreachable" replies. Which is correct. If I try to ping an existing vpn
subnet ip, I get "timed out" messages. So it appears the server still knows
there is a connection there and the routing tables are still in place.
However, if 1 packet of data is sent from any of the vpn clients to the
server or any of the internal LAN hosts, all routing resumes and all hosts
can again route to, and ping each other. Until the vpn tunnels sit idle
again for a sustained amount of time, then this problem repeats. Talk about
weird. Anyone seen this anomoly before or have a possible solution?
Thanks for any help,
Nate S. Watts
