Strange NFS Client Behavior

We are in the middle of doing a new desktop client deployment with SUSE 8.2
and have
noticed what we think is some very strange NFS behaviour The network is
running a
RedHat 7.2 server that services existing RedHat 8.0 desktop NFS clients fine
with no
issues. The SUSE clients however intermittently seem to lose connectivity -
if you enter
the control centre and just resave the NFS client settings in YAST
(administrator mode)
and refresh the Konquerer window all the files are there and all is good
(for a few hours).

This is an issue as I really don't want to be giving out root passwords to
desktop users or
giving them root privileges for obvious reasons. Has anyone seen similar
behaviour or have
have any ideas (other than switching the desktops to RedHat 8.0)?

Thanks in advance,
