will the card ping itself???
This sounds like a card gone bad...have you tried a different card OR different port on the switch -- Cris Hanna (SBS-MVP) _____________________ Please only respond in the Newsgroup and not directly to me, so that everyone can share the information "AOrlando" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news:(E-Mail Removed)... > I'm really not sure what the problem might be at this point. I have tried a different port on the switch.
By ping itself do you mean ping 127.0.0.1?? Or ping it's own internal IP address. The internal server card is 192.168.1.18
I can ping this address from inside the server - so I am pinging its own card. Is there anything else I can try? Sadly not on hand - the network card is built into the MB itself. Just
looking at the list of hardware that comes up after POST, the networking card is listed and shown as working. But obviously it could still be defective. I may have to buy a network card to test, but in the meantime is there no other setting software side that may cause this behavior? I am now noticing something even stranger than before:
When the server is booting up (loading network connections, etc.) it will respond to ping just fine. Once the server completes the load and I log in and use it a little bit, the ping replies stop. Thank you very much. Unfortunately for me, it is the network card.
I had to shut down. Install the new card, reboot. Install new card drivers, configure it. Remove the old card from device manager. Setup IP on the new card. Shut down. Remove the old card. On reboot, tested and indeed the ping and all features once again work with the new network card. I think that lightning is to blame, we had a storm. And I guess it fried the built in NIC in the motherboard.
