Strange folder sharing problem

Since converting my FAT 32 Win XP SP2 partition to NTFS, I have
noticed a strange quirk with shared folders.

The shared folders are all visible on other PCs on the network, but
*not* all folders within them. It is not just system folders that are
affected.

In my games folder I have 8 games installed in their own folders, only
5 are visible across the network.

I can fix this by explicitly sharing the individual folders, but I
have the root shared and used to have all visible (which is how I like
it until my kids get older ;-) ).

On another of my PCs has a natively formatted NTFS partition that does
not have this problem.

Any advice?

TIA.
