Strange behavior of a Win98 station on a Win2K domain

Hi,

I have a Win98 workstation connecting to a Win2K domain. This
workstation shares a few folders on the network. The shared folder are
not accessible until the user logs in. Moreover, even after a login took
place, the other stations on the network cannot reach the shared folders
after a while (usually a few minutes).

If the Win98 user logs off and then logs in again, the shared folders
can be reached again from the other workstations... after one minute or
two and only for a few minutes. Then the same problem appears again.
This is not a hardware problem since the same station has no problem at
all when booted under XP.

This happens even if the Win98 workstation is absolutely idle (no screen
saver or any fancy utility involved). This is a clean install of Windows
98.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance.

I should have mentioned that I'm trying to access the Win98 network
shares through their UNC names (I didn't map any share).

Now I just discovered that if a single machine on the network maps the
Win98 network shares, all other systems on the network can now have
uninterrupted access to these Win98 shares by just using their UNC name
(no drive mapping is necessary). If I remove the drive mapping, the
problem shows up again.

Any explanation welcome...

Thanks.

Wrong. It just takes much more time for the shared resource to be
disconnected.
