Stopping All Connections For Short Periods. How?

Hi,

Anyone know of a simple small application or command that can switch
off or on all inter\net communications on a particular computer?

Basically I use a router but there are times I want to stop any
outgoing connections from my XP PC.

I no longer use a software firewall (OutPost) and the router is leaky
and doesn't stop errant programs from connecting to the net. I
sometimes want to block these for a short time.

I'm looking for a single click solution if possible. Any suggestions?

Releasing the DHCP lease or removing the default route will do the job. But
I'm not sure it's worthwhile. If by "errant programs" you mean ones you
haven't run, then a software firewall should be ideal.

Two options.

1) Sygate Personal Firewall (free). Has an option from system tray to
Block All traffic or individual applications.

2) Create a new shortcut. In the command line put NET STOP. Create
another one and put NET START instead.

Thanks Conor but the command doesn't work and requires a service but I
can't figure out which one.

Go to Network Connection, right drag "Local Area Connection" (it's
normally called) to desktop, create shortcut.

Right click shortcut - Enable/Disable.

(Seems a bit heavy handed though!)

Just set the option for your network card to display in the notification
area even when connected.

then you can simply right click and select enable/disable at your leisure.

Cheers Guys,

This is the basic method I have chosen:

I created an icon in the quick launch bar (on the hidden part) and
right click to enable \ disable works great from there.

I tried putting it in the notification area but on disabling it it
just disappeared.

Now I can only think that I must be really thick for not thinking of
this myself but I guess I can't have the 'looks' and the 'brains' but
then again God was cruel to me on both counts )
