hi,

i have a noob question about routing...

i have two linksys routers, befsx41 and rt31p2 (for vonage).

to make this post short, the schematic drawing of my network is here :

question - what do I need to setup (static route?) on both routers to make
comp 4 see the other computers in the network?

It's simple (ok for me)....

Your BEFSX41 has the internal net 192.168.1.0
Every call outside this subet is routed to the internet. No problem at all.
The RT31P2 has the internal net 192.168.15.0.
Every call outside this subet is routed to the BEFSX41 and if the call is'nt
to the subnet 192.168.1.0 then it should be routed to the internet.
the internet.
No problem at all.

Problem is if you want to contact Comp 4 from either comp 1, 2 or 3.

In the static routing from the BEFSX41 you should put the route:
192.168.15.0 and point it to a differtent gateway. This gateway is the
external address of your RT31P2 (eg. 192.168.1.150). The only thing you
should do is give the untrust side of the RT31P2 a fixed IP-address.

Example:

Comp1 (ip 192.168.1.100/24 with GW 192.168.1.1)
Comp2 (ip 192.168.1.102/24 with GW 192.168.1.1)
Comp3 (ip 192.168.1.103/24 with GW 192.168.1.1)

RT31P2 (ip 192168.1.150/24 with GW 192.168.1.1)

Comp4 (ip 192.168.15.100/24 with GW 192.168.15.1)

If you call from Comp1 (192.168.1.100) to Comp4 (192.168.15.100) then the
rule in the static routing would point you via 192.168.1.150 to
192.168.15.100

Presuming that the second router (RT31P2) ahs the (Fixed) IP-address
192.168.1.150 with Subnetmasker 255.255.255.0 nad gateway 192.168.1.1

Start the interface of the BEFSX41.
Click the orange button at the top (Advanced)
Click the button Static Routing
Enter the following information:
Destination lan IP: 192.168.15.0
Subnetmasker: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.150
Hopcount: 0
Interface: LAN

If you "call"the comp4 then it should be reachable for Comp 1 to 3

Succes

Johan
