Setup:
Windows 2003 Server (all updates applied) running as only DC on
network.(AD/DNS)
DHCP is configured on Cisco PIX and distributes address for DNS server
above.
Windows XP workstations (all updates applied).
I am seeing mysterious static workstation entries in the ARP cache on
my Windows 2003 server. This is causing headaches, as PCs that get
new addresses from DHCP that correspond to the static entries in ARP
aren't able to communicate with the Windows 2003 server.
I basically see a static and dynamic ARP entry for the same MAC with
different IP addresses. This does not affect our other Windows 2000
and Windows NT servers. I can still ping them and any other computer
on the network. I'm guessing my XP workstations send requests to this
server, but then the packets are routed(or lost) because of the old
static ARP entry that exists on the server.
I realize that I can just remove these static entries or flush the ARP
cache when this happens, but I shouldn't have to.
I have seen a similar post titled "DHCP and Mysterious static ARPs
Windows 2003", but there were no responses. Is this a known Server
2003 issue? We didn't experience this prior to installing the 2003
server and XP workstations.
