I've got a win2k laptop with a linksys wpc54g wireless pcmcia card. I have
the hardest time connecting in a starbucks café with the t-mobile high speed
internet.

I've tried a couple different starbucks and I've only connected once. I went
back to that same starbucks and still can't get on. I've called t-mobile
tech support and they can't resolve.

If you've connected with a win2k laptop, what card did you use?

Thanks!

Maybe something could be learned
by using a USB adapter with a cable
allowing you to orient the antenna.
Luck

With the SMC SMC2435W, I could connect to Starbucks from my car in the
parking lot. With an Orinoco Silver, I could connect from the street in
front of the store, beyond the parking lot. A DLink DWL-650 would show
signal, but I couldn't make a connection unless I was inside the store.

There is a helpful answer....

I have not had any issues connecting to the Hot Spots at Starbucks, I use
several notebooks and the one with Win 2k, I use an Orinoco Gold 802.11b.

And T-Mobile rocks IMHO.

Thanks,

Jose

To orient the antenna would suggest signal strength? The times that I've
been in a starbucks, still unable to connect, I looked at the signal
strength of the ssid and I get from 70-100%. I turn off all my firewalls &
virus protectors. I go to the device manager and fiddle.

All to no avail.

I read a post below about some other oem's. I'm heading over to 'best buy'
to return this linksys for the moment to try more.

I'll repost later.

One other suggestion. I had MSblast and the same trouble. H-Key/Local
Machine/software/microsoft/windows/run/
autorun="Msblast.exe" That starts the worm at bootup. Luck

Thanks for all the help in previous post replies. I chose d-link router &
card. I verified at 4 starbucks login & surf no problem. On 2 places, I was
able to connect in the parking lot.

I was going to try the smc brand but I could only get it at compUsa. Their
return policy is 14 days w/ crap. I got my setup @ best buy 30 day return
policy w/ no crap. I also saw on d-link's website that there's a software
upgrade to make this thing 108mbps! And a rebate!
