Hi to the community....I am trying to find a solution to this simple but
frustating issue I am experiencing with my new Windows 2003 Srv. My scenario
consist of 6 workstations on a layer 2 segment along with the server having a
shared folder, and two sahred printers, the workstations are running XP pro
and the issue is that it takes too long to open files on the server from any
workstation, I do not see any other problem on the server itself as it runs
normally and fast...I heard there is a bug or a fix that needs to be patch in
order to bypass some security services on the client...any advice?.....all
the ICMP from worksations are equals, browers work fine, email.

Is the server a domain controller? Did you run dcpromo?

Is this a new setup or has it been up and working "better" and something
changed that iscausing the slow down that you see?

If this is a new setup and it's been running like this since you initially
set it up, I would try using DNS.

DNS did not solve the problem either.. ...tried even disabling netbios and
leaving only TCP/IP and same thing....the only thing that sped up a little
bit the connection was eliminating the rest of shared folders between the
workstations, it helpd a little bit but still I think is got to be with XP
trying to access shares on windows 2003 srv as we used another OS and it
worked normal....will keep researching and post once I finally and hopefully
fix it......Thanks for trying to help.....I will keep listening for advices
as well.......
