Stand-by

I have 98SE. When I use the stand.by mode (or turn off disk or monitor)
through the Power Management facilities in Control Panel, the system does
not come back and I am forced to reboot.

I have now left the options on "never" so that the monitor/disk is always on
and I have not had any problems.

But obviously there is something wrong and I would like to try and fix it.
Where do I start?
