Stable wireless ADSL hardware?

Having seen the other thread that concentrates on wired routers, I
wondered if I could have some suggestions on wireless ADSL routers (with
inbuilt modem).

I think I've been convinced to bite the bullet and maybe pay a little
more for something that is good quality, but at the same time the
Drayteks seem a little pricey for a home user who doesn't want features,
but does want something that will "just stay up and work".

So far I've been looking at the Drayteks (on eBay new ones are pricey)
and maybe Zyxel, such as the 660HW model?

I'm mindful that at the moment I'm "only" on 2mbps but at some point my
exchange will probably get unbundled and as I'm with Freedom2Surf this
might mean I'll be getting up to 8mbps so something future proof would
be nice (I guess most routers could be if the manufacturers supported
them long enough?).

What else would people suggest I look at?

TIA,
Paul

Well - my Netgear DG834G is up to ~400 hours connection time (since I last
turned it off) and it has been totally flawless from new!

All routers should be speced up to 8Mbps.

485 hours here and it would have been more apart from the fact I
rotated my WEP Key.

I'm using a Draytek Vigor and am pleased with it, I have also used a
Linksys WAG54G. Both have WAP but the Draytek has better range.

If you are ever likely to use NetMeeting you need to be very careful
about the router you choose. Neither the Linksys nor the Draytek can
handle the H323 protocol that NM uses. One works for outgoing calls
only, the other for incoming only. If you may want to use NM you will
need to search for a NM aware router.

For flexibility of siting the wireless AP I'd seriously recommend using
a separate AP so that it can be placed where you get good coverage and
the router can be placed where you can connect it to your phone socket.

Just my 2p worth.

Thanks for the heads-up, it's not something I'm planning on but
obviously things change.

I've been doing a bit of homework and so far the Zyxel seems to be well
regarded.

With the Netgear suggestions, well, I'm probably being silly basing an
opinion on this, but we've had at least two Netgear firewall bricks
simply fail for no good reason, so I'd probably need some convincing
before spending my own money on one.

cheers,
Paul

My sister has a Dlink DSL504 which has worked perfectly well for ages
but she cannot use her Webcam in MSN messenger (router freezes)
although the mic works fine. Is this the same sort of thing? If so,
which router would you suggest? (She's thinking of getting a new one).

I'm not sure it's the same issue.

I had some very late nights testing NetMeeting with a colleague using
MS NetMon to analyse the packets of data. What we discovered was that
with one router the packets were sent out with an internal IP address,
so my colleague's NM couldn't route back to me and with the other
router the opposite happened, inward packets weren't being translated
so my NM couldn't route back to him.

If NM is important to your sis I'm happy to check with my colleague
what routers do work with NM.
