When you have line splitters in your telephone sockets after enabling
broadband, can you plug a dial-up modem into the non-broadband side?

Yes.

I have just that setup, since my Wife's employers will not let her
connect to their VPN using our BB "for security reasons" :-(

The modem can be used at the same time as ADSL is being used (from a
different PC).

I will let the experts answer, but would comment that when I went broadband
with Tesco a couple of weeks ago it said in the instructions if my set up
did not work I should use my dial up. One sets up after BT have enabled the
line.

you can, and it works. If the ADSL modem is disconnected you can plug
it into the line without a splitter if you like.

Yes, that's how on my PC dedicated line I have my ADSL router plugged in and
also my old 56k PCI modem also connected and running WinFax.
