Hi )
can anyone tell me what it means if you are trying to get broadband and
you are told you have a split line on your phone connection as a friend
of mine has this problem?
Cheers

http://www.serviceview.bt.com/list/c....boo/14061.htm

From that, it suggests to me that there might be some other data service
but I know no-one in this position to know what services exist like this!

quoting the exact text from the number checker at www.bt.com/broadband
may be useful. I suspect it says "Line sharing device" not "split
line".

Tiscali - dialup speeds at Broadband prices, see

AOL - the unlimited ISP of choice for heavy downloaders.

Aaahhh, the infamouse DACS, perhaps the friend used to have low speeds
on dial-up, as well ? For the OP: DACS will (usually) be removed when
BT is activating the line for ADSL, unless there are major problems with
availability of spare lines. DACS is a way to share one connection from
the exchange, and serves two phone lines (eg neighbours or businesses).
