Although this router has proved to be almost totally reliable, the
promised f/w updates haven't materialised. The UK SpeedTouch site is a
complete joke & their forum has been closed down.

I would suggest people steer well clear of this range of products until
Alcatel/Thomson show more inclination to provide TS & updates.

There is a update to the latest firmware, version 4.2 available from
http://cengis.free.fr/speedtouch/ - it just hasn't been listed on the UK
Speedtouch site yet though

Do you know why the forums are shut?

Sunil

4.0.2.0.0 is the latest version of the firmware (that I know of), I only
managed to get hold of it though some obscure forum (where members of
Thompson/Acatel unofficially post) that was once mentioned some in this
newgroup I think.

I've lost the link unfortunately but someone here probably still knows
it.

I too am dissappointed by the lack of support offered by
Alcatel/Thompson, luckily the 510v4 works flawlessly for me.

The only real grumble I have is the lack of documentation for the
firewall and the arcane method you have to use to set or change any
firewall rule (a web based interface for the FW was supposedly going to
be added but hasnt appeared in the year or so since I've had the 510v4).

Easier FW setup was one thing I was hoping for. There's mention of v4.2
in the h/w section of the ADSL forum but am not certain it's actually
for the 510v4 or not so was hoping for an official release. Mine's been
running for 54 days, 40 before that, then 30 etc, etc. Even without
updates, it's proved to be very reliable if not the easiest to manage
the more obscure features.

Why would you need support or firmware upgrades if it works flawlessly for
you? I've istalled 5 or 6 of these units for clients and haven't had a
single complaint yet!!

Upgrading to 4.2.3.0.0 was uneventful, I'm pleased to say but still no
FW web interface(Plenty more settings to examine instead). All I need
now is updated CLI info. This version was d/l'd from Sunil's French link
this morning. Anyone know what DrST does?

Message-ID: <(E-Mail Removed)>

"And of course SNMP is supported in this version. I didn't find an
updated CLI manual yet, but the config syntax issimiliar to the 610's
snmp commands, with the exceptionof the trap parameter (Apparently no
traps with the 510, but then I wasn't planning on using them)."

You may want to ask about DrST at

Any chance you could post the firmware somewhere?
http://cengis.free.fr/speedtouch/ seems to be unavailable

Hi,
I've put the firmware on my webserver here
http://charon.martinc.me.uk/Speedtouch423Firmware.zip. For the wizard to
work, I had to set my speedtouch to its factory defaults. Before you do
this, backup your current config so you can reload it after the update.

Thanks for that - got it successfully upgrades, without the need to
reset to factory defaults first.

Looking in the diagnostics section, via the web interface (advanced ->
diagnostics -> wan -> connections -> pppoa_pppoa -> IP Connectivity) I
see that an error appears:
Ping Address = 195.166.128.6
Ping Address Description = Remote peer IP address (DNS was not
reachable)
Ping Packetsize (in bytes) = 20

195.166.128.6 appears to be part of Plusnet's kit (they're my ISP), and
I'm guessing perhaps the HG I connect to.

Apart from this, things are looking good with it.
