Hi all, I wonder if anyone could tell me how I check the speed between two
machines linked wirelessly, as I seem to have very slow file transfer rates
between machines?
Many Thanks
John

Transfer a file of known size and time it.

As [ste] suggested, sending a file of known size is a good way. You should
keep in mind that when using Windows' file copy you are sacrificing a fair
chunk of bandwidth for the overhead. For this reason I use either Netcat[1]
or Simple Socket File Transfer[2] depending on what I feel like. Both of
these utilise the bandwidth much more effectively and should give you a
more accurate idea of the throughput you can get.

You could also try searching the web/Usenet for a bandwidth testing program.

[1]http://www.vulnwatch.org/netcat/
Command-line only, could be too complicated for some users.

[2]http://www.whitsoftdev.com/ssft/
Has an easy-to-use graphical user interface and can restart failed
transfers from point of failure.
