Specifying script as printer backend

On Solaris, AIX etc it is possible to configure a print queue that runs
a script when a job is submitted to it, rather than actually
interfacing with a printer.

Is this possible in Linux?

Yes, and by the same syntax if using lpd. "man 5 printcap" for more
information, with special attention to " :lp=/path/to/script: " argument to
a printer definition.

Check the documentation if you are using CUPS instead, but I believe the
syntax is at least similar.
