Hello..

I have a very strange issue.

I have a Windows 2000 professional workstation that is in a domain that is
trying to map to \\SERVER\Share.

\\SERVER\Share has been up and running for over a year now. 4 seperate
users in the domain were always able to access this share. All of the
sudden, they are receiving "X: is not Accessible. The Specified network
name is no longer available."

I've diconnected and re-mapped the share, no luck. I am able to see the
mapping in My Computer but receive this error when I double click the drive.
I receive this error when I try to map to any exisisting share on this
server.

If I create a NEW share, I can map to it just fine. Any suggestions?

-dazed and confuzed.

I would check the hardware (switch and NIC) settings first. This troubleshooting web page may help,

specified network name is not longer available
System error 64 - "The specified network name is no longer available". System error

If you can access new shares on the server, then this isn't a hardware
problem as Robert L suggested. Instead, this sounds like a permissions issue.
I would compare share-level and file-level permissions on the new share with
the permissions on the old shares and see if there are any differences.

Also, can you access the shares using their UNC paths rather than by mapping
drives to them?

Here's the thing that I left out. If I were to log on in as one of those
users in the New York office, it will map and can gain access to the
contents of the share.

These users are all located in an Ohio office. It seems as if any existing
shares on the server, can't be mapped. I even tried to remove the share and
re-add it, same problem?

Could this be some type of network issue? No one in the Ohio office can map
to the shares in question - but from any other location, they can be
accessed.
