I'm with PlusNet, and have been inundated with spam during the holiday
period .
In the last 24 hours I have received 140 messages to two post boxes, and I
assume my wife will have received a similar number in hers.

I am very tempted to change ISPs but would like to know if from the spam
point of view I would simply be jumping out of the frying pan into the fire!

Are their any ISPs which have reasonably effective control of spam?

Not sure about ADSL providers, but the NTL (now Virgin) spam filters
seem to work very well -- at least, I get very little spam in my
inbox. (Some gets through, of course, but no more than a couple per
day.)

That's what happens. Weekends and holidays give spammers more chnace to
get stuff out before they get shut down.

Really not very much. I get thousands a week, but my main email address
is quite old.

Dunno. I filter my own. Just put in greylisting on my mail servers and
it seems to have screwed it down further still.

Hi there,

Do you know if your accounts are on the Postini anti-spam platform yet?

http://community.plus.net/comms/2007...pam-trialists/

If not register your interest here -

http://portal.plus.net/wizard/?wizard_id=20

We'll not be moving the next batch of trialists for a few days at best
but when we do you should find that the volume of spam reduces.

In addition to this I'd suggest contacting the support team. There's a
possibility depending on your circumstances that we can apply
black-holes, turn off catch-alls etc. to help reduce the volume of
unwanted mail you're getting.

Kind Rgds,

I've used Demon for years. They use Cloudmark to control email spam.
It works very well. The few that get through Cloudmark are picked up
by client application that I use (Agent 4.2).

Too get a feel for how well Cloudmark works I have disabled it for a
few days occasionally. When it is disabled I get well over a hundred
spam a day. When it is enabled that drops to less than ten. Agent 4.2
catches them all but I prefer not to get them in the first place.

I've had a few more than is normal. Plusner USED to seem to catch most of it but
maybe their filters have gone tits up ?

Spam is one reason I originally left NTL. My @ntlworld address was
finally getting around 250 spams a day before I abandoned it. Even
though I was using mailwasher, it was a chore dealing with it. It looked
like the spammers were simply using any random viable name.surname
combination @ntlworld.com.

i use a hotmail address, same one for about 10 years and get hardly any
spam, maybe 10/week getting through to my inbox, and this is using a proper
name ((E-Mail Removed)) not a random 123!(E-Mail Removed).
also, when i change isp i don't have to tell everyone a new address.

I've just signed up for the Postini trial but the problem remains that,
until this is brought into operation, the *existing* spam-trap system
appears not to have been maintained/trained over the past few weeks.
I'm getting loads of it in my inbox lately and I'm sending it all back to
Plusnet via the despamchecker, with no effect so far.
It's all obvious spam, untagged by the existing system and the majority of
it is addressed to the same five-letter group @ myusername.plus.com
Regardless of the Postini trial, isn't it time that someone looked at what's
happening to the existing system?

George

Do what I do and dump anything from anyone who isn't in your address book.
Anyone who isn't on there and wants to send me mail has to fill in the
form on my website first so I can vet them.
