SP2 - WPA Personal Won't Work Anymore

I am using Windows 2003 SP2 on a desktop. I upgraded the SP today and my WPA
(nor WEP) will work. The ssid shows up as available, but I put in the
passcode, it doesn't connect, then the broadcast SSID disappears. I had no
problems with SP1.

I am using a Linksys WRT54G router with the latest firmware.

Hi Joe,

I'm suffering the same issue as you. I've rolled back to SP1, however, the
problem remains.

It's a strange one. I've tried enabling and looking at the trace log files
(for example, EAPOL.log), however, I cannot ascertain the issue. The log
files are far from comprehensive, but that's due to my own ignorance, rather
than it being anything else at fault!

Maybe you could do the same.. follow the wireless troubleshooting guide.
It's available here:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro.../wlansupp.mspx

Let me know if you get anywhere with it! I'm going to carry on trying at
some point.

Joe,

If you want, send the logs to this one-use e-mail address (to protect from
spam etc):

indigoitwizard-(E-Mail Removed)

Too much information is better than none at all!

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious (I don't mean to sound condescending), but
would you mind zipping the logs up, as they can get quite large, and the
compression ratio for text is excellent!

Regards,

Shaun

I have not installed SP2, but what you are seeing is what I would expect.
The "What's new in SP2" says that SP2 prevents a server from automatically
joining a peer-to-peer wireless network as part of the security
improvements.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for your reply.

It's an infrastructure mode network, rather than a peer-to-peer one, as I'm
using an access point. The server does automatically connect to the access
point, but after one second, disconnects. It then reconnects, and then
disconnects again.

Turning on demand mode connection rather than using automatic connection
yields the same result. Immediate disconnection occurs when you connect.

You've just gave me a great idea though. Instead of going through the logs
of automatic connection, after automatic connection, I'm going to turn
demand on, then look at the shorter logs!

Regards,

Shaun

Thanks for the logs Joe.

I've discovered a way to achieve a stable connection. Turn off wireless
security. Of course, this is not a solution, merely a troubleshooting step.

I've turned security back on now, and I'm investigating the errors in my
EAPOL.log file.

I'll let you know if I get anywhere with this.

Regards,

Shaun

I've logged a call with Microsoft Support. I'll let you know how I get on.
