Don't know how, but I got better performance after removing the
3com-supplied prfile manager, installing sp2, and using the built-in
tools to manage the network connection.

I agree about improved wireless performance. SP2 handles selection of
the preferred network far better than SP1, there is no contention among
other networks. If the wireless goes down due to changes in router
config, SP2 re-establishes the connection seamlessly and quickly where
SP1 often required a reboot.
