Hi

Hopefully I'm not going to suffer any of the problems others have reported
here, but I've only had ADSL for a couple of weeks, so there's plenty of
time :-)

Tiscali supplied me with a sagem USB modem, and so far so good. However I
also have a binatone ADSL 2000 router/modem, which I want to use instead.
The main reason being that I can connect my sons PC via USB, and then my own
via UTP.

My question is - does anyone here know how I can get it all working? I've
tried installing the modem on my pc, and I can access the setup page (AFAIK
this is contained on board the modem).

I have tried changing my connection settings, but win 98 can only see the
sagem modem, and my v92 modem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Liam

may help

in general forget it is a modem, set up the connection settings on its
web page and tell your pc to use it as the default gateway (assuming
you are connecting to it with ethernet).

Setting the TCP/IP properties of your network card to "obtain address
automatically" should work. If you are using ethernet to access its
setup page then try telling Internet Explorer that you use a LAN ie
set it to "never dial a connection"

Just use it via ethernet and tell windows it is your default gateway.
Using one here for over 9 months.

Sorry - networking not my strong point. Do you mean install the ethernet
driver, then go into network neighbourhood properties, find the tcp/ip entry
for the modem and set the gateway there as the ip address for the on board
web page? Or should I change these settings in my NE2000 card entry
instead?

Also, does it make any difference that I have a dynamic ip address?

Sorry for all the questions, but I had enough trouble just getting 2 win98
boxes talking to each other :-(

TIA
Liam

That sounds about right, I think. Try it, if it doesn't work then it's
not that. It's the best way to learn what does what.

No, as long as you have an active ADSL connection it will work, as
long as the user settings are correct.

We all start somewhere. ;-)

I followed the advice given here, played around a bit, and bob's your
uncle - now online via the ethernet connection on my modem. The advice ref
my NE2000 settings was pretty close to the mark, but it only worked *after*
I removed a gateway.

Thanks again for all the help and advice!

Liam
