set it as the default, else you may just be killfiled for all time...

no thanks - other newsgroup servers I use do not require me to use plain - so I have no intention of defaulting just for this one

Fair enough, killfiled for excessive line length and top posting then.

I'm baffled - you get no benefit from posting in html, so whats the
point in sticking to it? Do you think readers actually /like/ funky
colours and weird fonts?

Its up to you of course. Likelihood is however that most readers here
will killfile you for posting unreadable junk,

-------------

In general very few text newsgroups allow html posts. In years of using
newsgroups I don't think I've found one whose charter allowed it although
there are no doubt some that do.

OK, as a default it might be OTT, but if that's the case, use a free news
reader for text groups, after all showing a bit of flexibility means your
participation will be more widely accepted, not simply ignored. Peter M.

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?
A: Top-posting.
Q: What is the most annoying thing on Usenet and in e-mail?

top posting beats bottom posting hands down - but anyway, nice to see what a
democracy we live in :-)
