hi,
Thank you again for your help in advance. I really need a lot of help here
I just finished transfering a DHCP config and db from an old DC to a new DC
by using the "netsh export dhcp server...etc" from the support tool. I could
see all the original config and db (such as IP leases) on the new server and
same as the old one. And I follow the steps indicated by article 325473.
However, when I tried to get on one of the client PC which has old record
from the old DHCP server and did "IPconfig /renew", or "ipconfig
release/renew". Then I got the error telling the client on the LAN interface
could not communicate with the dhcp server (the new one). I needed to reboot
the pc and then I could do it. I tried on other PCs in different
subnets/sites and it happened the same.
Why did the article 325473 not mention about this? Or did I do something
wrong?
Also, another question... I got a warning for my new DHCP server with Event
ID 1056. It said "The DHCP service has detected that it is running on a
domain controller and has no credentials configured for use with Dynamic DNS
registrations initiated by the DHCP service. This is not recommended..." I
looked at article 282001 that I need to setup credentials for the DHCP in the
DHCP advanced settings.
Is this warning important? Should I get rid of the warning by following the
instruction? If so, which domain account I should use ? If I assign a domain
user for this DHCP server, should I do the same on other DHCP server?
IF I do not do this, what would happen? Does it mean the DNS records would
not be deleted.
Thank you again for your helP!
