Ok, I seem to be being a more than averagely thick git this morning.

Just downloaded an updated version of the s/w for this router, and the
installer program and followed the instructions... However, nothing
happens - I do this:

1.Set up the modem and pc ip address in the same subnet (already the
case).
2.power on the modem.
3.After the modem show the main menu execute the upgrade utility.
4.The username is "adsl",password is "adsl1234"
5.Click button "open" to choose the "71205a32.hex"
6.Click button "upgrade"
7.Select "Modem image" and "Configuration"
8.Then click button "Ok" to start upgrade firmware.

This is where it all goes wrong... I get a message saying:

"TFTP Error: Code = 2
Message: Failed to unlock server using password"

I have tried using the default password shown above (which doesn't allow
anything to happen as far as I can see - even the maintenance can't be
accessed using that) and using the admin name and password that I use to
configure the router.

Any clues? Please!

I looked into upgrading my Asus unit, but found that the version installed
was already the latest version.
Did you download ONLY from Solwise, as the version from Asus abroad
would set the unit not to work on the UK BT network.
If the unit has failed during writing process it may be totally locked out
and
you would need to try and reconfig via the 9 pin "Console" data port.
If it failed to start the upgrade writing process does it still work if you
connect it up to use?
If so you may be better off just using it in that state, I dont see them
releasing
any more upgrades for it which is a pity since its a real good unit.

Yup.

It's still working - on the old version, just can't get the new version
to upload at all. Do I NEED to connect via the serial port? The
instructions sort of imply I can do it all via ethernet...

Hi,
are you running a firewall by any chance or do you have the XP firewall
enabled (assuming you are using XP)? If so, the firewall will be preventing
the TFTP session from being established to upload the firmware file.

Good thinking, but no firewall...
