What is the best firewall that allows me to share files on my network with
other computers without any worry.

I have heard some firewalls dont like that!

No firewall 'likes' filesharing out of the box. AFAIK they're all
configurable to allow filesharing so take your pick.
Kerio is recommended, Zone Alarm V5 most definitely isn't

There is no firewall good enough that you don't need to worry about it.
If there was everyone would use it and the hackers and virus writers
would pack up and go home.

There are several very good firewalls that help reduce the risks. I use
ZoneAlarm but other people have had problems with it. It's free for
personal use and so it's a good starting point.

You should also consider whether your router provides sufficient
security or whether you should consider a separate firewall system too.
It all depends on how much time, effort and money you are prepared to
throw at the problem. That depends on how highly you value the integrity
of your network, nobody else can know that.

Why do you not recommend ZA5? It has some good features that other
Firewalls don't have.

Like refusing to let you disable it, even though it claims that it's
disabled. :-)
What are the special features that are positive points?

I put it to you, Stuart Turrell, that on Tue, 6 Jul 2004 21:50:06 +0100
you did state the following; <(E-Mail Removed)>,

If you're on a network, try using a router with built-in firewall.

I have seen many peoples reports of it causing all sorts of strange
problems, in firewall newsgroups and in Zonealarms forums.
Even Zonealarm themselves have admitted, under pressure, that it's a
bit ropey.
Given that there are far better personal software firewalls available,
and all for free, why go through the hassle?

Although that only stops incoming traffic, any traffic eminating from
within the LAN is allowed straight through to the outside world.
Search Google for trojan dialler scams.

A trojan dialler that can dial out via a router would be a pretty clever
piece of kit!
