Unfortunately even finding and then installing suitable drivers is
going to be beyond my friend who is a first time Internetter/PC user.
They probably don't even know the model of the ADSL modem - and I
don't either as I don't live close to them.
The need to know what software came with the CD is mainly to let me
help them. So when they tell me something like DriveCleaner pops up
then I can tell if it did or did not come with BTinternet.
If it did come with BTinternet then maybe, just maybe, BTinternet has
it's own control window to uninstall it (DriveCleaner seems quite a
pig to get off). So I don't want to get them to simply hack out
utilities like DriveCleaner in case some weird and wonderful
BTinternet application dependency get screwed up at the same time
resulting in ... who knows what!
I imagine that BTinternet's CD probably did put on some 30 day trial
software during the installation. But at the same time I imagine
that my friend possibly got duped into pressing some popup browser
button and downloading some 30-day trial software themselves.
I need to work out what is what.
