Or if you do, can you tell me how?
TIA
(Obviously I've followed Microsoft's advice on their web pages)

The Microsoft VPN client needs version 1.4 of dial-up networking installed
(that's what it says when I try to install the client). So I download dun1.4
and try to install that, but nothing appears to happen (I agree to the
s/ware license, and then get a progress bar which quickly disappears). Upon
re-installing the vpn client it repeats that dun1.4 is required. How do I
determine what version dun I am running?
Thanks.

But not the bit that says "Why not upgrade to Windows XP"...

Everything about Win9x is flakey, including networking. That's why
Microsoft have stopped supporting it (or are about to very soon)...

You wanna play networking, get NT4/Win2k/XP/Linux/

Thank you for your comments.

XP is what my boss and IT manager are trying to push my way. It would
certainly be the simplest, but I'm not going to give up on Win98 just yet.

I don't really want to play at networking, I just want to use VPN. Choosing
Linux as the OS on my main PC would be a joke, and I'm pretty sure I don't
want to go there.

Do you have a method of determining the version of DUN that I'm running?

That looks like excellent info. I will try it as soon as I get home. Thanks.

It's not for nothing that most people use proprietary clients for VPN,
certainly early clients and servers had lots of compatibility problems.

Thanks.

Well I went through all of those steps and everything should be ok. I still
can't install the vpn client (downloaded from Microsoft), and I still can't
install (successfully) dun1.4. I DO have a vpn installed as viewable from
settings>controlpanel>add/remove>windowsstartup>communications, and I can
make a new connection with this device. It just won't connect, my IT dept
doesn't want to support non-XP VPN clients, and I feel like another beer!

Can you suggest a good (try before I buy) client that'll work with Win98SE?
Ta.
