I was asked to setup snmp to accept packets from all hosts. I commented
that this is a web facing server and that wasnt a secure practice. The
admin from the provider looked at me like I was an idiot and said that is
not an issue.
and there are no security vulnerabilities. This guy talks like he 'knows
all' I was wonmdering if I should challenge this one or let it go- maybe
he's correct. - the packets are not encrypted either.
any opions??
regards

Craig

I don't think it is secure,...but the level of the threat and the damage
that can be done I'm not sure about. It just comes down to who has the more
authoritiy where you work,...you or this guy from the provider. The person
with the authority says what will be,...the reality doesn't really matter
sometimes and neither does the opinion of those who don't have the
authority. Sometimes the smartest people are the ones never listened to.
