SMC7004VBR Clock doesn't syncronize with NPT

If I turn on the router after I turn on the modem BUT before I turn on
my computer, the clock sets itself in sync. With the public time server.
If I accidentally turn ON my computer BEFORE the router has had a
chance to initialize, the router continues to think that time zero began
when it was first turned ON.
This is the case even though it is obvious from the synchronization
between the lights on the modem and the lights on the router that the
router and the modem are “talking” to one another. Once the router has
switched to the late night blocking mode, (currently set to 12:05 AM),
the only way to synchronize the router clock is to: (1) disable the
firewall, (2) change one of the NPT public time servers, and then (3)
go back and re-enable the firewall. Is there a way of getting the
router clock to synchronize without having to either shut off my
computer or work through the router menus. The SMC7004VBR is running
boot code Ver 1.05 and run code version 1.23. I have not been able to
find any more recent software updates.

Windsurfer:

Are you sure the "Enable Automatic Time Server Maintenance" check box
in Advanced setup - System - Timezone??
