SMC2804WBR as access point?

Can one use the SMC2804WBR as a simple access point? No routing, no WAN
connection.

SMC told me that I can do this by (1) changing the IP address to comply with
my LAN and (2) turn off DHCP service. Will this work as they say?

Yes it will. No doubt about it. But why not buy a simple WAP if you're only
planning to use it like that?

This gets hashed over almost as often as the question is asked.
Routers are usually cheaper than WAP, and can do the same job in most
environments.
