I cannot get smbclient (redhat 9) to connect to windows 2003. However on
some machines I am able to connect to the server using smb:// on the
nautilus browser.

Any help is welcome

You might check to see if "Microsoft network server: Digitally sign
communications (always)" is enabled; this can cause problems with some
SMB implementations that don't (yet) support SMB signing. (You can
check this in the Local Security Policy console under Security Settings
> Local Policies > Security Options.)

Also, for whatever reason, I have also seen instances where a local
host firewall (ipfw on Mac OS X, in my instance, but this could also be
applicable to iptables) interferes with SMB to Win2K3, even though all
the necessary ports are open.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help Scott, I have found out that samba 2.2 was included in
redhat 9. This version of samba does not support smb signing. I have read
that samba 3.0 does
smb signing, I think that I have to upgrade my samba.

Have a good day!
