Hello,
I just installed a new workstation running Windows XP Pro (dual-core
3.4Ghz w/ 3 Gigs Ram) to replace an older Win XP Pro system (2.8Ghz w/
1Gig Ram). I do web programming and use Homesite 5 to edit my code,
which is stored on a Win 2003 Server, and I connect to the files via a
mapped drive.
When I edit code via Homesite on the new PC, there's a huge delay as I
go between files, save files, edit, etc. I didn't have this slowdown
on the older PC, and even running both at the same time (on same
subnet, even through same switch), the older PC edits the files as if
they were on the same PC -- very snappy.
First I thought it might be DNS, but I've setup the drive mappings
using the server's IP address instead of name, and same results. Both
the server and workstation have the latest updates, so I'm not sure
what to try. Can anyone make a suggestion on what might be causing
the slowness? Homesite basically shows Not Responding when it hangs,
and that's frustrating when making lots of quick changes.
Thanks for any suggestions or ideas on this... I know it's not
Homesite because I've tried editing the files in other HTML clients to
get similar results.
