Slow Vista browsing network after 2003 SP2

We are having a problem with windows Vista Business and Windows server 2003
RS since installing service pack 2.

Browsing network shares and opening files has slowed down to a point it is
almost unusable, I have searched everywhere for a fix but cannot find one. I
have noticed a few posts from other people describing the issue but they
have resolved the issue by un-installing SP2.

Also a few HP printers are reporting that their driver needs updating before
they can print, if you clicked on the update driver option you are presented
with, the machine appears to hang.

I have removed SP2 and all the issues have disappeared.

Windows 2000 and XP machines are not affected by the service pack.

All machines on the network are a member of the domain, including the Vista
machines.

Has anybody seen this issue before, and how to resolve it, as I would like
to have SP2 installed?

Regards

Graham

In addition to Ken's post, which explains why it is happening, take a look

Try the following before un-joining it from the domain:

netsh interface tcp set global rss=disabled
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

Reboot the machine. Then re-join. Reboot.

Everything appears to be working now: KB927695 and KB904946 appear to fix
the issue.

Good to hear and glad you posted back with your results. Sometimes we help

Thanks for the post! This was driving me and my single Vista user insane!
