box1:
RH 7.3
kernel 2.4.20-28.7
Samba 3.04
Duron 1.3 gHz, 1 gb ram

box2
Mandrake 10.1 beta1
kernel 2.6.8-0.rc2.2mdk
Samba 3.0.5pre1
P3 800, 512 mb ram

I mounted a share on box1 from box2 with:
mount -t smbfs -o username="username",password="password" //homebase/sw
/mnt/homebase_sw

I tried to copy a 1 mb file from box1 to box2, and I had to ctrl-c it. I
tried both from command line and MC. MC reported speed as 410 b/s.

Nothing wrong with NIC. I can download from the web at 350 k/s.

From box1 to windows clients, I transfer 100 mb in ~10 sec.

Why is it so slow on box2?

Thanks,
Woody
