I set up shared folders on a Win 2K3 server and I am get
a slow response (30-40 secs) accessing the shared from a
users WinXP workstations.

Once I get into the shared folder performace is fine. If
I get out of the shared folder and stay out for lets say
about 10 min's and try to access the shared folder again,
same thing (slow response).

Any ideas?

How long does it take if you try to access the share via IP # ?

\\192.168.0.x\sharename

Is it immediate? Are all your clients pointing to internal DNS servers or
external? Do you run WINS?

\\192.168.0.x\sharename works great.

All clients are pointing to a internal DNS server. Not
running WINS. All clients are running Win XPpro.

Is \\192.168.0.x\sharename going to be the standard now
because NetBEUI is a thing of the past. Or do I just have
somethin screwy with my DNS?
