We have recently migrated from Novell Netware 4.11 to Windows Server 2003. We
set up 2 new servers. One is the Domain Controller with DNS, DHCP, and WINS
installed. The other server is a file and print server. We have around 130
workstations, of which 50-60 are Windows XP and the rest are Windows 98 SE.
The primary DNS server on the workstations points to the domain controller.
We map several drive letters to shares on the file server. I'll use F: =
\\fileserver\main in my examples

The problem we are having is when a user clicks on F:, the window is blank
for 20-30 seconds before it lists the contents of the share. After that,
displaying the share is immediate for 5-10 minutes, after which it again
pauses for 20-30 seconds. The delay also occurs if the user goes to Start,
Run and types in \\fileserver\main.

Searching online, I found several posts which say to delete the following
registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/
Explorer/RemoteComputer/NameSpace/{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}

If I delete that key, then going to Start, Run and typing in
\\fileserver\main, it displays immediately. However, clicking on F: still
experiences the 20-30 second delay.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can try to resolve this issue? I
will appreciate any help provided.

Mezlo

Yes they do since there is still 1 more novell server on the network, but I
have hooked up a laptop running XP which has never had the novell client
installed and it behaved exactly like the existing workstations so I do not
think the issue is related to the novell client. That was one of my first
guesses which is why I tried tthe laptop.

ok..that was my first guess also because i had similar behaviour a couple
years ago and it went away after removing the netware client
