Slow Logons

I have just setup a 2k3 network and i get slow and timed out Domain Logons.

I have the server setup as Primary DNS. i have no "." zone in Dns..
When i try to join a domain from a xp pro Wrks i get the logon box for
domain right and it just sits there for about 5 min then times out.. If i
finally get it to join when i log on a users it take 5-10 mins to apply
settings and log on to network..
i have had this problem with 2k servers as well. any idea what im doing
wrong??

any errors if using nslookup to check the DNS status? or posting the result of ipconfig /all here may help.
