We recently upgraded to a multi-megabit internet connection. The connection
has 2 T-1 that are “bonded” using a Cisco series 1800 router. The router has
an Ethernet handoff that connects to our Sonicwall Pro 3060 firewall. The
Sonicwall then plugs into our HP 5406ZL switch. The switch is setup to act as
the default gateway for the network and the Sonicwall is setup as the default
gateway for the switch.
The trouble we are having is when we plug into the switch our upload and
download speeds are about 1/3 of what they should be. When I plug directly
into the Sonicwall or Cisco router we get the full 3MB up and down. I have
tried this at all time of the day so network and VP traffic is not an issue.
I have talked with our telco and they say we are hardly putting any load on
the connection. They have tested the lines and everything comes back clean. I
have talk with HP about the switch configuration and the say everything looks
likes its setup correctly.
I’m now at the conclusion we have something miss configured in the network.
I have looked at our IP forwarders and they look correct. I have even changed
the DNS to open.dns and it’s about the same. Many times pages time out and we
are required to refresh 2-3 times before the site comes up. I’m sure once the
speed issue is resolved this issue will be as well.
If anyone has any ideas on what might be the cause I would certainly
appreciate it.
Thank you
Elery
