Slow domain logins and slow file copy from XP clients

I'm running W2K3 server as a domain controller and dns
server. The client machines are windows xp. They are
resolving dns and getting on the internet just fine, but
they are taking a long time to logon to the network and
they are experiencing slow file copying to the server.

Do you have the ip address of the local DNS server as the
only DNS in the TCP/IP setting on the client WS's? If
not, then this may be the cause of your slow logins.
More often than not, slow logins is the result of
improper DNS settings.

You WS's DNS should be the IP address of your DC/DNS
server. At the server, you DNS should have the ISP DNS
servers set as forwarders. Hope this helps.
