How slow can plusnet go?

Just done two speed test on Plusnet and gotten the following results

That's pretty pathetic speeds from plusnet, it's obviously them
throttling down the internet after 4pm - hence why I'm switching to
Sky Broadband and saving £5 per month. If plusnet want to throttle
customers during peak hours then fine but not that far back.. I was
getting better speeds 5 years ago.

Date 25/03/07 17:57:06
Speed Down 226.93 Kbps ( 0.2 Mbps )
Speed Up 93.22 Kbps ( 0.1 Mbps )

Date 25/03/07 18:01:02
Speed Down 204.98 Kbps ( 0.2 Mbps )
Speed Up 91.68 Kbps ( 0.1 Mbps )

Hilarious.

And yet they still maintain they have adequate capacity.

From info picked up here I concluded that my ISP (Idnet) have about 4-5 times
more central bandwidth per customer than Plusnet do.

Without any of the facts I'd guess that you've been subjected to BT's
bRAS profiling. If you fancy raising a ticket and posting the ID here
then I'd be more than happy to take a look at your account and offer my
opinion?

Nope - almost certainly not the fault of Plusnet and if you do swicth before
sorting the problem out the problem will impact you with your new ISP. If
you change to Sky you can probably forgot any chance of having it sorted.

There's some other problem with your connection which you need to get fixed.

Gareth.

The BRAS profiling only affects the downside rate - the OP's got a poor
upside rate as well. The upside rate is fixed and not individually managed
on BT's network. Unfortunately the OP didn't give a lot of information in
his original post which may suggest it was a parting swipe at PN rather than
a post for help or advice.

Care to provide some evidence as to this Graham? Any ISP with that sort of
overhead is heading for liquidation. In any case it is almost certainly a
problem at the exchange or in the customer's equipment or wiring if the up
speed is low. Alternatively there could be severe contention at the
customer's exchange. It is not impossible that it is an ISP problem of
course but very unlikely.

Which is exactly what was happening to Pussnet before BT bailed them out,
Pussnet are still meddling with Ellayoca's though and still trying to put
the shareholder first, as long as this practise continues, the customer
suffers.

Trust me, dumping Pussnet was the best thing I ever did, you honestly don't
realise how bad things were until you move to a decent ISP.

BT need to sack a good few more top staff at Pussnet and change their
business model drastically before things can get better.

Mud sticks though, and this scumbag ISP will always be shunned by discerning
broadband customers who don't like getting an ass shafting by a company
where customers interests come after shareholders.

A conversation I had with Miriam at Idnet. She inadvertently gave away the
number of customers they expect to support before having to order yet another
new 'central pipe' ( they just had one installed last month).

Bear in mind that they don't have any 'cheap' contracts and have lots of
business customers so they don't have the burden of loads of spotty kids tying
up their network with massive p2p downloads. Zen are similar. Compare their
stats on thinkbroadband to *any* other ISP.

It could be. Maybe congestion at the DSLAM in fact. Something I reckon I was
suffering from myself and complained about but maybe Miriam's been able to
affect it some way ? It's nice and fast again now. I was suffering latency
issues more actually. A speedtest would still happily return 5000kbps.

At those numbers I'd seriously expect it to be Plusnet.
