Slow browsing within folders

Hello Everybody,

I am facing a rather strange situation. I have setup an enviroment with a
couple of servers one of which is acting as a file server. It is an HP
DL-380G4 with RAID5 and Windows Server 2003 R2.

The symptom is that even on the server console (since it is happening on the
clients too) when you try to browse from one folder to another, sometimes
there is a noticable delay. The symptom exists on the clients side too (Win
XP Pro SP2) more often along with a long delay when they try to save, even a
small word document.

This server used to act as a DC, DNS, DHCP but after many tries to find out
what is going on, finally I've removed these roles to another server in
order to reduce the load. But unfortunately the problem still exists.

The only role the server has right now, exept from the FS role, is that it
has the Symantec System Center consoel for the Antivirus.

I had enable folder Quotas but I've removed them hopping that would solve
the problem. No luck!

The server has two NIC's in a team and most of the folders storing the data
are quite big (10 - 80GB).

Any ideas or anyone have face anything similar?

Thanks in advance

Andreas

We'll need configuration info to better assist otherwise it will be mostly
guesswork on our end. Please post the following to help give us a start in
diagnosing this:

1. Unedited ipconfig /all from the server and from a sample workstation that
is having this problem
2. The AD DNS domain name
3. Event log errors on both machines. Please provide the EventID# and Source
name.

Thank you,
Ace

The problem initialy was discovered from many workstations but it turned out
that it is happening on the server console too.

There are no event log errors on the server. Everything looks fine and thats
the problem because I can not find anything to start from.

The AD DNS domain name is ADKDOMAIN.local

Hello msnews.microsoft.com,

What happens if you disable anything according to your AnitVirus and then
try it again?

Best regards

Ok, that looks good so far. I also wanted to see one from the workstation.

How about where that client is? Is in on the same subnet as the DC or on a
different one? If different, are there any servers over there?

No there is only one subnet. All PCs are geting the IP information from DHCP
server based on the below IP info.

According to the hostname it implies that this is a Domain
Controller,...however in the TCP/IP specs it is not pointing to itself as it
should be in the first DNS entry.

That is all I see with what's infront on me right now.
