Hi all,
We are having a problem of accessing the shared folders.
The following is our configuration.
Server: Windows Server 2003 Standard
Stations: Windows XP SP2
Shared Folder: located at Windows Server 2003. It contains 7700 jpg files at
the same level.
Whenever the user of the station access the files by using Windows Explorer,
it takes 35 sec for listing out the file on the right pane. (But at the
server itself, the file list show up in only 1 sec.)
Same problem happens when the shared files stay in a Windows XP station and
are accessed by another Windows XP station.
I tried to search in the web and some people suggest to delete the registry
key to disable the search of scheduled task. But it makes no difference
after the deletion.
Then, I observed the network traffic by Windows Task Manager during that "35
sec". I found the usage is only 0.2 to 0.3% (I believe this is the % of the
band width). Whereas, I tried to copy a file (11M -- less than 1 sec). It
can be up to 70 to 75%.
One more experiment. Same 7700 jpg files were copied and shared in SBS 2003.
It takes about 1 sec to list out all the files! And I found the traffic is
up to 4 % (This is 20 times of the Windows 2003).
Apparently, the network traffic is purposely limited for listing the files
details, but it doesn't in SBS 2003.
Does anyone know how to "release" this limitation? Your help would be
greatly appreciated !!!
