Slow access of mdb files over SBS2003 network

Hi,

I installed an SBS2003 G3 HP Proliant server back in December. All
applications etc. work fine. Cabling has been tested and is fine. All the
latest network card drivers are installed on the server and client machines.

All applications work fine and file transfer is quick. However, the client
has a problem with one application in particular.

The application is based around access and has a large mdb file as its core.
It should be noted that this is third party software and we have no control
over changing it to sql etc., and are stuck with it as is.

The problem is that when the client machine fetches information from the mdb
file held on the server, it is painfully slow. This is the case on all
machines.

I have checked active directory etc and management are everything appears to
be running 110%.

Can anyone shed any light on why just the particular application has an
issue. It was not slow when hosted on the prevoious, older server.

Thanks.

Hello RitchieJHicks,

Maybe you have to ask the vendor of the software about using it on 2003.
What application is it?

Best regards

Thanks.

Hi Ritchie,

i have the same problem on a HP ProLiant 350 G5 with a Access 9
Database.

What i tryed to fix the problem:

- replaced trivers on the Server an PCs
- Updated firmware on the raidcontroller
- made a workaround about SMB-Singing, SNP, an
SBS-BestPracticeAnalyzer
- exchanged the nic in the Server, the switch
- set the NICs to 100MBit
- disabled shaddowcopys
- put in a SATA-HDD in the server and moved the database on it
- disabled Exchange-, HP-, Arcserve-Services
- removed APC Powerchute

Nothing could solve my problem. Then i copyed the database on
workstation in the LAN, mapped a driveletter, and averything worked fin
.

But this can not be the soloution to my problem .
Did you find any soloutions?

Best Regards,
Fränk
