Slightly OT Orange BB and differnt router

Any gotyas when setting up the above with a 3rd party router (eg DG834)
rather than using the Orange supplied piles of poop??

Only when you get a line fault and the useless tech support
"help"-line will insist on you rigging it back up and going through a
series of pointless "tests" (along the lines of "have you tried a
different USB port?") before they run a line test.

This was the point. My client is going with the Option 1 package (2mb, USB
modem supplied) but wishes to have wireless connectivity for her, and her
lodgers, and I insist on a proper router not the almost-as-rubbish livebox
(£50)

Having googled, it would seem that Orange use a typical setup on their BB,
so it should "just work".

I configured a Belkin router on an Orange line today after coming to the
same conclusion about the Livebox.

I started to get annoyed with it when I set it up to use WPA only and yet
the Security menu still referred to a WEP key and insisted that it must be
26 characters long. Also, the Pairing button (which I believe allows it to
talk to any MAC that it sees for the next ten minutes) did not start the
button flashing to indicate that it was in pairing mode. What a pile of
crap!

I'd be hard-pressed to say which is worse. Probably the LiveBox because of
this stupid pairing thing which is a trap for the unwary. But both routers
are dire. In contrast, BT's Voyager routers (eg the 220) are fine. The odd
thing about the LiveBox is that it defaults to WEP and all the documentation
mentions just WEP. I suppose we should be thankful that at least it talks
about encryption and doesn't come with encryption turned off. But no-one
should be using WEP these days if they can help it.
